More about Royal Oak Offshore Blue Dial SS / SS
This is a stainless steel Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Chronograph, 25721ST.OO.1000ST.09. It has an integral stainless steel link bracelet, and a scratch resistant sapphire crystal. The 46mm diameter case, octagonal fixed bezel with 8 screws, and bracelet are brushed. It has a screwed down solid case back secured with 8 screws. The screwed down chronograph pushbuttons and winding crown have black rubber cladding, and there is a tachymeter scale around the outer rim. The dial is navy blue with the tapestry "waffle" design texture, with large luminous Arabic numeral hour markers, and luminous filled baton hands and a white central chronograph hand. There are three silver sub dials, including a small seconds dial at the 12 o'clock position, a 30-minute counter at 9 o'clock, and a 12-hour dial at 6. A date aperture window is at 3 o'clock underneath a 2.5x Cyclops magnifying lens. It's water resistant to 100 meters/330 feet, with a power reserve of 40-hours. The 14mm thick case, dial, and movement are all signed. The automatic self-winding Audemars Piguet caliber 2326/2840 movement is rhodium-plated with fausses cotes embellishment. It's constructed with 54 jewels, a shock absorber mechanism, and a straight-line lever escapement. It includes a monometallic balance that's adjusted to heat, cold, and 5 positions, a self-compensating flat balance spring, and a 21K gold rotor that oscillates at a frequency of 28,800 vph (4 Hz). Audemars Piguet produced the first Royal Oak in 1972, with a custom Jaeger LeCoultre movement designed by the brilliant horologist Gerald Genta. It was named for the British battleships of World War II, which in turn were named for the oak tree in which Charles II of England hid from his enemies, the Roundheads.
